The factory M240i exhaust uses a single valve, while the Dinan system incorporates a second valve and actuator on the opposing side to promote more even exhaust flow. When the valves are open under high-load conditions, exhaust is directed through the freer-flowing outer paths for a deeper and more aggressive tone. With the valves closed, gases are routed through the muffler and exit the inner tips for quieter operation. Dinan's internal drone-abatement design helps control unwanted cabin resonance while preserving a more pronounced exhaust note when desired.
